The Great Northern

Englewood colorado Realtor

This is a history of the construction of the new Great Northern layout in my basement. Construction started in earnest in November of 2005 although lighting and power circuits were installed many years before. The newest photos are at the top of the web page.

Seattle is starting to take shape as the receiving yard and passenger leads are filled with trains. The far tracks are the departure track and after last Friday' s "sort of operating session" participants suggested, I am busy creating waybills for all cars on the layout. Next will be the facia on the Seattle level.

Here are some shots of the Doodlebug approaching Wenatchee from the standard gauge side of the layout. Dual gauge track comes in from the right and connects with the Holy Cross & Crystal River RR and Denver through Rico Coloado.

This is a good overview of the narrow gauge entering the layout on the right from Denver.

In the distance is Wenatchee and the forground is the Ft. Wright interchange.

On the right a sign will be posted "Third rail Ends"

These shots were taken December 29, 2006 on Pete Doty's layout.

On the left is the first try at the Seattle Passenger Depature and Arrival Tracks. There is now another track that is part of the wye on the left track offerring greater flexibility. On the right is the Wenatchee interchange witht he engine house on the right and coaling tower just about centered. Standard guage engines cannot pass under the coaling tower (it was originally constructed for narrow gauge) so a second track needed to be installed on the wye. The Doodlebug above will follow the track to the left to Bonners Ferry.
