These kits come with a few castings and some good drawings however, knowing the history of the car would be helpful. The era these were built were in the late 1890s and so the corner and end designs are quite a bit different than the highside gons we are used to. The car I chose to model would have been delivered to the RGS from the DRG in about 1924 when another 99 were delivered to RGS. They were known as coal cars however there are pictures in Sloan's books showing milling equipment and automibiles in the gondolas.

The nails in the timbers running from a to b are ink dots. There is a rusty chain binder and some cable that started life as picture wire. The top of the side and end boards have been treated rather roughly and one is broken. A piece of the floorboards is missing as is a knothole knocked out of a side board. While the base wood color was Miniwax American Walnut stain it was heavily weathered with Krylon as well as a wash of 50% stain 50% mineral spirits. The rocks and other debris on the floor is leftover from previous loads.

Some extra details were added such as an air brake system, coupler cut levers as well as Hartford sprung trucks and Kadee couplers. Other details are from Ozark Miniatures including the many NBW castings!
