Denver Community Information

City & County of Denver Colorado

Denver Colorado, the capital of Colorado, was established by a party of prospectors on November 22, 1858, after a gold discovery at the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River. Town founders named the dusty crossroads for James W. Denver, Governor of Kansas Territory, of which eastern Colorado was then a part. Other gold discoveries sparked a mass migration of some 100,000 in 1859-60, leading the federal government to establish Colorado Territory in 1861(from the city & county of Denver Colorado history page).

According to current records the City and County of Denver has over 550,000 residents, while the metro area has some 2.25 million. There are people who own real estate and homes in "Denver" that are not actually within the city limits. Residents of suburbs such as Highlands Ranch, Englewood, Littleton, Greenwood Village, Parker, Castle Rock, Lakewood, Aurora, Thornton, Centennial (and the list goes on) say they live in Denver Colorado yet may actually live in a different county such as Arapahoe, Douglas or Jefferson Counties Colorado. Even more confusing are the unincorporated portions of the outlying counties that have a Denver Colorado mailing address.

Homes in Denver range from the modest 1 bedroom condominium in the lower end of the price scale to the opulent mansions in the gated or golf course communities. Many homes offer planned communities and amenities with horse properties, luxury estates, and walking trails/paths or recreation centers. Residential property listings can be found throughout the 6 county metropolitan area with a single multiple listing service (MLS) in Denver Colorado. All real estate agents in Colorado hold "Brokers" licences and are either Broker Owner/managers or Broker Associates. Typically agents will work as Buyers Brokers, listing brokers or transaction brokers (see definitions). I always try to work for the client as their "Exclusive" agent.
