Aurora Colorado History
- Founded in 1891, the city of Aurora was originally named Fletcher by its founder, former Chicago resident Donald Fletcher.
- In 1907, the town changed its name to Aurora.
- In 1921 Aurora was selected for the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center to treat soldiers afflicted with mustard gas poisoning.
- 1929 Aurora becomes a city
- 1942 Buckley Air Field is constructed
- 1960 Aurora's population exceeds 50,000
- 1995 The Fitzsimmons Redevelopment Authority is created
- 2000 The population exceeds 292,000
- 2000 Buckley is now Buckley Air Force Base
- 2004 The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center at Fitxsimmons is vibrant and active
